The Bill

The Employment Relations (Flexible Working Hours) Amendment Bill is a members’ bill in the name of Green Party MP Sue Kedgley.  It passed its first reading in Parliament in April 2005 and was sent to the Transport and Industrial Relations select committee.  After considering public submissions the select committee decided in 2006 to ask for further research to determine the best way to introduce flexible working hours.

In November and December 2006 the Government sought public feedback on the best way to ensure employees have the option of flexible working hours, where it is practicable for their workplace, and this year Parliament will decide whether to support the Flexible Working Hours bill.

July 30 2007: The Transport and Industrial Relations select committee today reported back on the Bill.  You can access a copy of the report on Parliament’s website here.  For commentary from the Bill’s sponsor and members of the Coalition in response, click here.
